William Gonsalves

William Gonsalves, 79, of Milliken Blvd., died Sunday at Morton Hospital in Taunton. He was the husband of Erundina (Dias) Gonsalves and the late Iris (Hearn) Gonsalves.

Born in Fall River, MA, he was a son of the late Antone and Rose (Mello) Gonsalves, he lived most of his life in this city and was a graduate of B.M.C. Durfee High School. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving as a Master Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force.

Mr. Gonsalves worked as a foreman/welder for many years at Electronic Sheet Metal Craftsman.

He was a former translator at St. Anne's Hospital and patient liaison at Charlton Memorial Hospital. He served on board of directors of the former St. Elizabeth's Credit Union. He was member of many senior clubs. He was an active member of the former St. Elizabeth's Parish.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Anthony Gonsalves (Wife Susan) of Fall River; two daughters, Verna Gonsalves of Fall River and Lynda McDonald (Husband Raymond) of Attleboro, MA; a step-son, David Rego (Wife Connie) of Fall River; a sister, Marie Jean of North Carolina; two grandchildren, Patricia Rego and Raymond Gonsalves Brennan; a brother-in-law, George Ponte of Fall River; a sister-in-law, Mary Gonsalves of Fall River; and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Madeline Ponte, Paul Gonsalves and Helen Gonsalves.

His funeral will be held Thursday at 9 a.m. from the Oliveira Funeral Home, 215 Columbia St., followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Stanislaus Church. Interment in Oak Grove Cemetery. Calling hours Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
