FALL RIVER... Thomas R. Gomes, 49, of Tiverton passed away May 18, 2020 at St. Annes Hospital
Born in Fall River, he was a son of Roger F. and Donna J. Gomes.
A graduate of the Tiverton High School class of 1989 and alumni of the Electrical Engineering Department of UMass Dartmouth, Mr. Gomes worked as a Production Associate at Emergent Biodefense, for almost 3 years. He was formerly employed at the United States Naval Underwater Warfare Center, for 16 years.
Thomas was an avid cyclist in the Providence area, a member of 1PVD Cycling and Red Shed Bike Shop. He was always helping someone and was heavily involved the Recycle-A-Bike program, helping to provide affordable refurbished bikes to the local community. He donated his time to countless bike racing events, bike swaps, and charity events. Always generous with his time, when asked to participate at an event he skipped sleep and would catch up on the rest later.
Thomas also was a member of Beardman Cycles of Wrentham, where he was a machinist, metal fabricator, and mechanic. He was also part owner of Machines with Magnets, a performance venue, recording studio, and gallery in Pawtucket. He enjoyed collecting comic books, hot wheels, and figurines.
Along with his parents, survivors include his brother, David E. Gomes of Tiverton.
Due to current restrictions, services will be private. A celebration of life will be had at a later date, to be announced by the family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations, in Thomas’s name, be made to Recycle-A-Bike, 1911 Westminster St, Providence, RI 02909, (401) 525-1822, http://www.recycleabike.org/#donate
