Theresa A. (Plonka) Avilla, 65, of Davol St., Fall River, formerly of Susan Rd., No. Dighton, a retired registered nurse, died Wednesday at Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River. She was the wife of Paul M. Avilla.
Born in Taunton, MA, she was a daughter of the late Walter and Anna (Dobyna) Plonka; she lived in Fall River for the past 7 years. She was a graduate of Coyle Cassidy High School, class of 1964 and a graduate of St. Elizabeth's School of Nursing. Mrs. Avilla retired this past July from Southpointe Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center in Fall River. She previously worked at Sarah S. Brayton Nursing Care Center in Fall River and for several years at New England Sinai in Stoughton.
Mrs. Avilla was a volunteer at Our Daily Bread Soup Kitchen in Taunton. She was an avid reader, enjoyed knitting and traveling, especially cruising.
Besides her husband of 36 years, she is survived by a brother, Walter Plonka, Jr. of Taunton; several cousins; several nieces and nephews. She leaves a special god-child, Morgan Parent of No. Dighton; a special friend, Liz Corcoran of Duxbury, MA.
Her funeral will be held Tuesday at 9 a.m. from the OLIVEIRA FUNERAL HOME, 215 Columbia St., followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in Santo Christo Church. Interment in Notre Dame Cemetery.
