Shirley Ann Barreto

September 2, 1936 — March 20, 2014

Shirley Ann (Monize) Barreto, 77, of Swansea, formerly of Prudence Island, passed away Thursday at St. Anne’s Hospital. She was the wife of the late Louis G. “Louie” Barreto.

Born in Martha’s Vineyard, a daughter of the late Amelia (Avila) Monize, she resided most of her life in Fall River.

Mrs. Barreto had worked as a sewing machine operator for the former Tic Toc Frocks for many years retiring in 1975.

She enjoyed spending time with her family and was a volunteer cook for the Prudence Island Fireman’s Ball.

She is survived by a daughter, Marilyn Offer of Swansea and a son, Louis “Louie” Barrerto of Orlando, FL; a sister, Elaine Carvara of Riverside, RI; 2 brothers, Al Monize of Indiana and John Monize of Warren, RI; 3 grandsons, William “Billy” St. Pierre, Jr., Jeremy Adam Murphy and Keith Louis Barreto; a great-grandson, Tyler William St. Pierre and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late James Daniel Berard, Evelyn Carvalho, Helen Bradshaw, Barbara Sagarse and John Monize.

Her funeral will be held on Friday at 9:30 a.m. from the Oliveira Funeral Home 215 Columbia St., followed by a Memorial Mass at 10:30 a.m. in Santo Christo Church. Calling hours morning of funeral 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. Interment in Notre Dame Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations in her memory may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
