Seraphin C. "Britt" Brilhante, 89, of Fall River, passed away Saturday, December 22, 2012 at Charlton Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of the late Georgiana (Pacheco) Brilhante.
Born in Fall River, a son of the late Manuel and Innocencia (Cabral) Brilhante, he was a lifelong resident of this city.
He was a B.M.C. Durfee High School graduate class of 1942. He also attended the University of Rhode Island, enrolled in the Engineering Program.
A veteran of the United States Marine Corps he served during World War II, he was stationed at Munda Airfield during the New Georgia Campaign in the Solomon Islands.
Before the war he was employed at Newport Torpedo Station and after the war worked at Quonset Naval Air Station as an aircraft metal smith advancing to mechanical engineer for 29 year retiring in 1974.
After retiring he co-owned and managed the Pacheco Brothers Upholstery Shop.
He was a former member of the Our Lady of Angels Church and its Holy Name Society. Most recently he was a member of Santo Christo Church. He was a Boy Scout leader for troop #30 and troop #76.
He was also a member of the Portuguese Alliance Benevolent Society. He was also a member of the Quonset Point Engineering Association.
He was an avid Boston Red Sox fan and enjoyed attending Pawtucket Red Sox games.
He is survived by his 3 sons, Raymond P. Brilhante and Thomas P. Brilhante both of Fall River; and Charles P. Brilhante of Port Angeles, WA; a sister, Conceicao "Sarah" Avilla of Fall River; 7 grandchildren; a great-granddaughter and several nieces and nephews. She was the brother of the late Serafim M. Brilhante, Joseph M. Brilhante, Maria M. Brilhante, Manuel M. Brilhante, Antone "Tony" Brilhante and Irondina "Dina" Terceira.
His funeral will be held on Friday at 8 a.m. from the Oliveira Funeral Home 2064 South Main St. followed by a Funeral Mass at 9 a.m. in Santo Christo Church. Interment in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours Thursday 4 to 8 p.m.
