Rosalina Soares

Rosalina (Reis) Soares, 89, of Fall River, died Thursday at Catholic Memorial Home. She was the wife of Jose S. Soares.

Born in Mosteiros, St. Michael, Azores, she was a daughter of the late Manuel Souza Reis and Alexandrina Pereira da Silva; she lived in Fall River for the past 42 years and was a member of Santo Christo Church.

Mrs. Soares worked a sewing machine operator for several years at the former Paramount Sportswear, retiring in 1984.

Besides her husband, she is survived by a son, Jose M. Soares (Wife Lizette) of Fall River; two daughters, Lucia R. Ferreira (Husband Jose) of Fall River and Maria C. Gamboa (Husband Eduardo) of Fall River; a brother, Agostinho Reis of Fall River; a sister, Dilia Carvalho of Somerset, MA; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Daniel Reis, Maria Andrade, Evelina Bettencourt, Manuel Reis, Edmundo Reis and Zara Mota.

Her funeral will be held Monday at 8 a.m. from the Oliveira Funeral Home, 215 Columbia St., followed by a Funeral Mass at 9 a.m. in Santo Christo Church. Interment in St. Patrick's Cemetery. Calling hours Sunday 5-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to St. Michael's Church Soup Kitchen, 189 Essex St., Fall River, MA 02720.
