Richard A. Vasconcellos

September 19, 1943 — May 16, 2014

Richard A. Vasconcellos, of Fall River, former treasurer and tax collector for the city of Fall River, died Friday at St. Anne's Hospital. He was the husband of Joan E. (Clarkson) Vasconcellos.

Born in Fall River, MA, he was a son of the late Fausto J. and Hilda (Serpa) Vasconcellos; he was a lifelong resident of the city and a communicant of Good Shepherd Parish. Mr. Vasconcellos worked in the City Collector Department for a total of 41 years.

Mr. Vasconcellos served on the Fall River Municipal Credit Union Board of Directors and on the HealthFirst Family Care Center Board of Directors. He was a member and past president of the Prince Henry Society, a member of the Lions Club of Fall River and a member of the Fall River Elks.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two sisters, Hilda Michaluk and Lyllyan P. Borges, both of Fall River; two brothers, Fausto J. Vasconcellos, Jr. of Fall River and Alfred A. Vasconcellos of New Bedford; several nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Ayres Vasconcellos, Anthony Vasconcellos and Robert J. Vasconcellos.

His funeral will be held Monday at 9 a.m. from the OLIVEIRA FUNERAL HOME, 2064 South Main St., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Good Shepherd Parish, South Main St. Cremation to follow. Calling hours Sunday 4-8 p.m. at the South Main St. location. Please omit flowers.
