Richard Mello

d. March 27, 2025

Fall River

Richard Mello, 85, of 645 Woodman St., died peacefully on March 27th, surrounded by loved ones. He was married to the great love of his life, Myra Alice (Pacheco) Mello, for almost 49 years, until her passing in 2011, and was the father of Carl Richard Mello, aged 53 of Somerville.

His relationship with his nieces and nephews, Michael, Debbie, Jason and Taylor, and great niece Julia and great nephew Alex were also very special to him. His sisters-in-law Pat and Zelia of Fall River and Jeanne of East Sandwich and brothers-in-law Roy of East Sandwich and Alan of Fall River were very close to him as well. In recent years, he very much enjoyed the latest addition to his family, his daughter-in-law Lindsay Beamish. He also very much cherished his relationship with his beloved brother, Johnny Mello.

Born in Fall River, son of the late John and Palmira (Lima) Mello, he was a near lifelong resident of the city and ended his work career where he started it, as an apparel presser at Bradley Scott, Inc. (who promptly closed one year after his retirement!).

Richard Mello was a devoted husband and father, and as good a friend as somebody could have. He loved food, fishing, hockey, music, sitcoms, and horror movies and was quite happy puttering in his garden and running errands/going for rides in his beloved Tiverton, RI. He enjoyed many cruises and vacations with his family, and his cross country trip with Myra and their best friends Mary and Tommy Mello was certainly one for the books. He was incredible company and a true gem of a person and will be missed by all who were lucky enough to make his acquaintance.

A visitation will be held Tuesday, April 1, 2025, from 9 - 11 AM, at the Oliveira Funeral Home - South Main St. Chapel, 2064 South Main St, Fall River, followed by funeral prayers at 11 AM. Interment will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery.
