SANTOS, MARY (GOMES)
Age 96 of Howland St., Fall River, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 3, 2015. "Mamie" was the beloved wife of the late Manuel Santos. Born in Fall River, she was the only daughter of the late Domingos G. and Maria (Pacheco) Gomes.
Mary was a very much a member of the "Greatest Generation". She lost her own mother at the age of 15 and worked as a skilled seamstress in the Fall River sewing shops. She married her beloved Manuel in February 1941 and he was drafted into the Army just a month later as the US anticipated being drawn into WWII. She prayed for and awaited his return from 3 ½ years fighting in the jungles of the south Pacific.
She loved and is loved by her family. She is survived by her daughter Paula Stocker and her husband Steve and her son Gerald, his wife Patricia and her grandchildren Thomas, Terrance, Rebecca, Natasha and Amanda and now rejoins their sister Christina who died in 1985 as well as being missed by her five great-grandchildren, Bridget, Margo, Kaylie, Tyler and Tomas.
Her funeral will be held on Saturday, 10 January at 9 AM from Oliveira's Funeral Home, 2064 S. Main St., Fall River, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in the Church of the Good Shepherd, 1598 South Main Street, Fall River. Calling hours Friday 4-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mary's memory can be made to St. Jude Childrens' Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105
