Mary (Costa) Moniz, 97, of Fall River, formerly of Peckham Lane, Tiverton, died Saturday at Catholic Memorial Home. She was the wife of the late Leonard P. Moniz.
Born in Fall River, MA, she was a daughter of the late Mariano and Emily (Amaral) Costa; she lived most of her life in Fall River and Tiverton. She was a member of Santo Christo Church and a former member of St. Madeleine Sophie Church in Tiverton.
Mrs. Moniz co-owned and operated the former Lenny's Cleaners. She previously worked as a sewing machine operator in the local garment industry. She was a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union, now U.N.I.T.E.
She is survived by two sons, Leonard M. Moniz (Wife Angela) of Greenville, NC and Edward D. Moniz (Wife MaryEllen) of Fall River; three sisters, Genevieve "Jenny" Wyzerich and Alice Moniz, both of Fall River and Hilda Silvia of Naples, FL; four grandchildren, Melissa, Edward, Michael and David; a great-grandchild, Kaedyn; and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Evelyn Coelho, Georgina Nobrega, Toni Ferreira, Manny and Edward Costa.
Her funeral will be held Friday at 8 a.m. from the Oliveira Funeral Home, 215 Columbia St., followed by a Funeral Mass at 9 a.m. in Santo Christo Church. Interment in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours Thursday 4-8 p.m.
