Mary G. (Costa) Freitas, 102, of Somerset, died Friday at Charlton Memorial Hospital after a long illness with her daughters Margaret and Madeleine by her side. She was the wife of the late Frank B. Freitas.
She was the oldest daughter of the late Manuel and Sophia (Araujo) Costa, Sr. Born in Fall River,she was raised in Somerset, she returned to Fall River upon her marriage. She had been a Somerset resident for the last 40 years.
Mrs. Freitas retired in 1970 as a sewing machine operator after being employed by Schneierson & Sons Manufacturing and Muriel Frocks Dress Makers for many years.
She was a member of The Amalgamated and International Ladies Garment Workers Union.
She was a communicant of St. John of God Church in Somerset and former member of Santo Christo Parish.
She enjoyed gardening, cooking and sewing.
She is survived by her two daughters, Margaret Freitas and Madeleine Freitas, both of Somerset; and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Evelyn Lambert, Irene Dias, Olive Pereira, Lena Ferreira and Manuel Costa, Jr.
Her funeral will be held Tuesday at 8 a.m. from the Oliveira Funeral Home, 215 Columbia St. followed by a Funeral Mass at 9 a.m. in Santo Christo Church. Interment in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours Monday 1 - 4 & 6 - 8 p.m.
