Marilyn (Oliveira) Harrington, 68, of 2064 South Main St., formerly of Riverside Dr., Tiverton, president and secretary of Oliveira Funeral Homes, Inc., passed away Tuesday at Massachusetts General Hospital. Born in Fall River, MA, she was a daughter of the late state representative Frank B. Oliveira and Helen L. Oliveira; she lived most of her life in Fall River, was a graduate of B.M.C. Durfee High School and attended Bristol Community College.
Marilyn was a third-generation funeral director and embalmer and received her diploma in Sanitary Science, Embalming, and Funeral Directing from the former New England Institute of Anatomy. After the death of her mother Helen, she continued the family tradition and fostered her son, Robert’s, education and involvement in offering compassionate and dedicated service to the community. Robert will continue to carry on the family tradition.
She was a member and past president of the Fall River Funeral Director’s Association, the Fall River Evening Lioness Club, the Liberal Club Ladies’ Auxiliary, and the Holy Rosary Sodality of (the former) Our Lady of Angels Church where she also taught CCD classes. She was active on the Santo Christo Council of Catholic Women and served on its feast committee.
Marilyn was a Notary Public and a member of the Fall River Chamber of Commerce. She was appointed to the City’s Conservation Committee and Fall River Traffic Board by former mayor Carlton Viveiros. She was a member of the Women’s Democratic Club of Greater Fall River. She was a former member of the Quequechan Club.
She is survived by her daughter, Helen F. Trymbulak, M.D. of Glastonbury, CT; her son-in-law, Walter P. Trymbulak, M.D., Ph.D; her son, Robert S. Ferreira (wife Christine) of Fall River; her sister, Janice R. (Oliveira) Mello of Somerset; her brother-in-law, Norman J. Mello; five grandchildren, Katherine, Matthew, and Lauren Trymbulak, and Jonathon R. and Ryan F. Ferreira; two nieces, Kerriebeth Mello (husband, Jonathan) of Cambridge and Kelli M. Renker (husband Mark) of Attleboro; a nephew, Brian F. Medeiros (wife Marusa) of Georgia. She was the sister of the late Patricia A. Costa, Michael P. Oliveira, and the aunt and godmother of the late Douglas E. Medeiros.
Marilyn will be remembered by her family and friends for her sharp intellect, golden heart, and boundless generosity. Her sound advice will carry forward for generations to come.
Her funeral will be held Saturday at 8:45 a.m. from the OLIVEIRA FUNERAL HOME, 2064 South Main St. , followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:45 a.m. in Santo Christo Church . Committal prayers and interment at the family lot in St. Patrick’s Cemetery. Calling hours Friday 5–8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Robert L.
