Maria Fatima (Sousa) Verissimo, 74, of Division St., Fall River, passed away Sunday at Charlton Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of Laurenio Verissimo.
Born in Relva, St. Michael, Azores, a daughter of the late Manuel Rapaso Moniz Sousa and Maria Jose (Silva) Sousa, she resided in Fall River for the past 47 years.
Mrs. Verissimo was a homemaker and a longtime baby sitter for many years.
She was a member of Santo Christo Church and its Holy Rosary Society and also a member of the chorus. The Verissiomo's were involved with the Holy Ghost at Santo Christo and also served as mordom for several years 1991 - 1992 and 1996-1997.
She was also a member of Our Lady of Light Band.
Besides her husband of 53 years, she is survived by a daughter, Maria C. Cabral (husband Horacio) of Fall River, 3 sons, Aguinaldo "Shorty" Verissimo (wife Pamela) of Fall River, Arlindo "Rocky" Verissimo (wife Rhonda) of Tiverton and John Verissimo (wife Valerie) of Fall River; 2 nieces Paula and Pauline; a nephew Jean Paul; siblings, Rita Arruda of Ontario, Fernando Sousa of Ontario, Maria Jose Martins of Fall River and Maria das Neves Tavares of Fall River; 5 grandchildren, Kevin, Keith, Taisha, Cameron, and Avery; a great-granddaughter, Gabriella and several nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Armando "Peanit" Verissimo and sister of the late Maria Teresa Sousa, Manuel Sousa, Joao Sousa, Maria Filomena Lauzon.
Her funeral will be held on Thursday at 8 a.m. from the Oliveira Funeral Home 215 Columbia St. followed by a Funeral Mass at 9 a.m. in Santo Christo Church. Interment in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours Wednesday 5 - 9 p.m.
