Maria V. Carneiro

Maria V. (Leite) Carneiro, 95, of Fall River, passed away Sunday, November 24, 2024, at Marion Mannor, in Taunton, surrounded by her family.

    She was the widow of the late Manuel Costa Carneiro.

    Born in St. Michael, Azores, she was a daughter of the late Jose Sousa Leite and Maria Das Mercedes Quintal.

    Maria worked for most of her career as a seamstress in the local garment industry, retiring from the former Fall River Knitting Mills. She was a communicant of Santo Christo Church and member of the Santo Christo Holy Rosary Sodality. 

    Maria had a deep love for life's simple joys, finding comfort and fulfillment in the things that brought her close to family. She was an avid knitter, creating beautiful handmade pieces with warmth and care, and she cherished playing cards with her beloved grandchildren, always bringing laughter and light to those moments. Baking was another of her great passions, particularly making fresh Massa and Biscoitos, which filled her home with delicious aromas. Maria also loved her flower garden and spending time outdoors surrounded by her flowers. Most of all, she treasured the time spent with her grandchildren.

    Maria is survived by her children Jose Costa (wife Anna) and Eduarda Pacheco (husband Victor); her grandchildren Brittany Pacheco, Selena Pacheco, Kyle Costa, Jailyn Costa, Marlene Curvelo, and David Curvelo; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter Luisa Curvelo, her son Carlos Costa, and several siblings.

    A visitation will be held Friday, November 29, 2024, from 5 – 8 PM from the Oliveira Funeral Home, 215 Columbia St., Fall River.

    Her funeral will be held the following day, Saturday, November 30, at 9 AM at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM at Santo Christo Church, Columbia St., Fall River. Entombment will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Fall River.
