Maria M. Mendonca

Maria M. (da Silva) Mendonca, 81, of 45 Dover St., Fall River, passed away Wednesday at St. Anne's Hospital. She was the wife of the late Joseph Mendonca.

Born in Pico, Azores, she was a daughter of the late Jose Marques da Silva and Maria de Jesus da Silva, she resided in Fall River for the past 40 years and was a member of Santo Christo Church.

Mrs. Mendonca worked as a checker for many years at the former Shelburne Shirt Mfg. She was a dress maker while living in the Azores.

She is survived by two daughters, Maria Gloria Soares and Rosa D. Mendonca, both of Fall River; a son, John Carlos Mendonca (Wife Jacqueline) of Fall River; two brothers, John da Silva of Fall River and Jose da Silva of Sao Jorge, Azores; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 3 nieces and 2 nephews. She was the mother of the late Maria Fatima Mendonca and Jose Luis Mendonca, mother-in-law of the late Antonio H. Soares and Delfina Mendonca; and the sister of the late Manuel da Silva and Eduardo da Silva.

Her funeral will be held Monday at 8 a.m. from the OLIVEIRA FUNERAL HOME, 215 Columbia St., followed by a Funeral Mass at 9 a.m. in Santo Christo Church. Interment in St. Patrick's Cemetery. Calling hours Saturday 2 - 4 & 7 - 9 p.m. & Sunday 2 - 4 & 7 & 9 p.m.
