Maria O. (Carvalho) Mendes

FALL RIVER…Maria Olivia (Carvalho) Mendes, 84, of Brooksville, FL, formerly of Fall River, passed away peacefully January 12, 2023, at Sturgill Hospice House, in Brooksville, FL.

She was the widow of the late Anibal Nunes Mendes.

Born in Santo Antonio, Ponta Delgada, St. Michael, Azores, she was a daughter of the late Jose Carvalho and Ana da Encarnacao Carvalho.

Maria was a parishioner of Santo Christo Church and enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren, reading books, watching movies and taking care of her roses.

Survivors include a son, Anibal Mendes, Jr. and his wife Lori Rodrigues of Brooksville, FL, two daughters, Ann Ferreira of Assonet, and Linda Machado and her husband Richard of Dighton; sisters Marie Medeiros, Portsmouth Rhode Island, Vivian Mello of Assonet Massachusetts, Carmelia Correia, and late Immaculate Couto, Fall River Massachusetts. Six Grandchildren, Shelby, Loretta Julia, Nicholas Blake, Abagail Sophia, Ryan Nathen, and Arianna Marie. Great Grandchildren, Zayne, Oliver, Gwendolyn ,Nolan, Stevie, and Wega. Several Nieces and Nephews. She was the Mother in law of the late Steven Ferreira.

Her funeral will be held Saturday, January 21, at 9:00 AM, from the Oliveira Funeral Home, 215 Columbia St., Fall River, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM at Santo Christo Church, Columbia St., Fall River. Interment will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Fall River. Calling hours will be held Friday night, from 5 – 8 PM.
