Maria Mello

Maria (Sousa-Ferreira) Mello, 84, of Fall River, passed away peacefully December 11, 2023 at Country Gardens Nursing and Rehabilitation, in Swansea.

She was the widow of the late Jose C. Mello.

Born in Arrifes, St. Michael, Azores, she was a daughter of the late Adelino Ferreira and Maria de Sousa Ferreira.

Maria worked for several years as a seamstress at Brides Unlimited, in Fall River. She was a parishioner of Santo Christo Church and enjoyed spending time with her family.

Survivors include her children Joseph F. Mello (wife Christine), and Lisa Chasse; her brother Isidro Ferreira (wife Alda); several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. She was the mother of the late Silvino Mello and Maria Simoes, and sister of the late Irondina Katon, Adelino Ferreira, Manuel Ferreira, and Everett Ferreira.

Her funeral will be held Friday, December 15, at 9 AM from the Oliveira Funeral Home, 215 Columbia St., Fall River, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM at Santo Christo Parish, Columbia St., Fall River. Interment will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Fall River. Calling hours will be held Thursday evening from 5 to 8 PM.
