Maria H Medeiros

Maria H. (Furnas) Medeiros, 80, of New Bedford, formerly of Dartmouth, passed away Sunday, November 17, 2024, at St. Luke’s Hospital, in New Bedford.

    She was the widow of the late Jose Medeiros, Jr.

    Born in Santo Antonio, St. Michael, Azores, she was a daughter of the late Joao Furnas and Maria Joana (Da Silva) Furnas.

    Maria worked for most of her career as a seamstress in the local garment industry and was a communicant of Santo Christo Church. She enjoyed word searches and puzzles, and loved sewing, often sewing clothes for her children when they were young. She had a deep love for cooking, and Sundays were especially dear to her—she would spend the morning preparing meals for her children to enjoy as they gathered at her home. Maria also cherished watching telenovelas, cleaning her house, and, most of all, spending time with her children and grandchildren.

    Maria is survived by her sons John A. Medeiros (wife Diane), of Swansea, Jose D. Medeiros (wife Sharon), of Berkley, and Dimas Medeiros (wife Mandi), of Lakeville; her daughters Lorena Botelho (husband John), of Dartmouth, Helen I. Medeiros (fiance Chris), of New Bedford, and Susana Medeiros (fiance Drew), of Dartmouth; her sister Maria Joana Rodrigues; her grandchildren Stephanie, Felicia, Jason, Brandon, Emma, Marissa, Justin, Aydin, and Haley; many great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. She was predeceased by several siblings.

    A visitation will be held Wednesday, November 20, 2024, from 5 – 8 PM from the Oliveira Funeral Home, 215 Columbia St., Fall River.

    Her funeral will be held the following day, Thursday, November 21, at 8 AM at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 AM at Santo Christo Church, Columbia St., Fall River. Interment will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Fall River.
