Maria Eduarda (Lucas) Martin, wife of the late Dino Martin died at Kimwell Nursing Home in Fall River on November 29, 2013 at the age of 88. Maria was born in the Azores in 1925 and moved to Sao Paulo, Brazil where she married and lived for many years. As a talented designer of upholstery and clothing she soon became a production manager at an automotive upholstery manufacturing plant in Brazil. With her boundless energy and creativity she then started her own contract sewing company, sewing for several clothing and apparel companies and receiving awards for her own clothing designs. When the Brazilian economy suffered in the early 1970's she moved her large family of seven children to Fall River, Ma. She worked many years at the former Woodland Manufacturing of Fall River. She was a devout parishioner of Espirito Santo Parish and member of Holy Rosary Society.
She is survived by her children, Helena, Paul, Bruno, Fatima, Cida, Stella, and Dino Jr., by her brother Manuel Antonio Lucas of San Mateo California, her sister Odilia Lucas of Brazil, 12 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Her funeral will be held on Wednesday at 8 a.m. from the Oliveira Funeral Home 215 Columbia St., followed by a Funeral Mass at 9 a.m. in Espirito Santo Church. Interment in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours Tuesday 6 - 9 p.m. Flowers welcomed or mourners may donate in her honor to the Alzheimer's Association, 480 Pleasant Street, Watertown, MA, 02472.
