Maria Isabel (Alves) Pereira, 71, of Fall River, a retired garment worker, died Monday at St. Anne's Hospital. She was the wife of the late Jacinto M. Pereira.
Born in Candelaria, St. Michael, Azores, she was a daughter of the late Jose Luis Moniz Alves and Maria da Conceicao (Jorge) Alves; she emigrated to this country in 1979. She was a member of Santo Christo Church. Mrs. Pereira worked as a trimmer in the local garment industry.
She is survived by two daughters, Martha Reis and her husband Rui of Fall River and Goretti Almeida and her husband Walter of Taunton, MA; a son, Rui Pereira and his wife Fatima of Fall River; three sisters, Maria Benevides of Westport, Maria Cabeceiras of St. Michael, Azores and Mary Lou da Costa of Fall River; a brother, Manuel Alves of Fall River; 10 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Grace Pereira and Luisa Pereira.
Her funeral will be held Friday at 8 a.m. from the Oliveira Funeral Home, 215 Columbia St., followed by a Funeral Mass at 9 a.m. in Santo Christo Church. Interment in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours Thursday 5-8 p.m.
