BOSTON… Maria I. (Goncalves) Borges 86, of Fall River passed away June 28, 2014 after a long illness, at Massachusetts General Hospital.
She was the widow of Joao Borges.
She was born in Furnas, Sao Miguel, Azores a daughter of the late Jose and Antonia (Moniz) Goncalves and had lived in Fall River since 1966.
She was a communicant of Santo Christo Church, Fall River.
Mrs. Borges worked as a seamstress for the former Darwood Manufacturing and the former Shelburne Shirt in Fall River until her retirement. She enjoyed crocheting, cooking, sewing, and spending time with her family.
Survivors include 2 daughters: Margaret B. Carvalho and Anna I Borges both of Fall River, 2 sons: Fernando P. Borges of Westport and John L. Borges of Fall River, 7 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Jose P. Goncalves, Nicolau P. Goncalves, and Manuel P. Goncalves.
Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be held Thursday at 8AM from the OLIVEIRA FUNERAL HOME, 215 Columbia Street, Fall River followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9AM at Santo Christo Church, Columbia Street, Fall River. Interment will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Fall River. Calling hours will be Wednesday 5 - 8 P.M.
