Maria Luzia Galego

Maria Luzia (Borges) Galego, 86, of Fall River, died Thursday at St. Anne's Hospital. She was the wife of the late Antonio C. Galego.

Born in Furnas, St. Michael, Azores, she was a daughter of the late Lauriano Pevide and Maria dos Anjos Borges; she resided in Fall River for the past 49 years and was a member of Santo Christo Church. Mrs. Galego worked as a sewing machine operator for the former M & G Sportswear, retiring in 1991. She was a member of U.N.I.T.E.

She is survived by four daughters, Maria Carvalho (Husband William) of Tiverton, RI, Louisa Destremps of Michigan, Angie Levesque (Husband Wayne) of Berkley, MA and Margaret Branco (Husband Joseph) of Tiverton, RI; two sons, Lauriano Galego (Wife Mary) of Fall River and John Galego (Wife Marie) of Boise, ID; a sister, Catarina Borges of St. Micahel, Azores; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Joao Borges and Norberto Borges and the mother-in-law of the late Lou Destremps.

Her funeral will be held Monday at 8 a.m. from the OLIVEIRA FUNERAL HOME, 215 Columbia St., followed by a Funeral Mass at 9 a.m. in Santo Christo Church. Interment in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours Sunday 6 - 9 p.m.
