Maria J. Furtado

TIVERTON… Maria Jose Furtado, 75, of Tiverton passed away Wednesday, May 18, 2022 at Newport Hospital, in Newport, RI.

Maria was born in Ponta Garca, Sao Miguel, Azores a daughter of the late Manuel Furtado Ribeiro and Hermelinda da Encarnacao Henrique and had lived in Tiverton since 1981.

Prior to retiring Ms. Furtado, worked as an inspector at Bradley Scott, for 20 years. Maria loved gardening and tending to her flowers. She also enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking, sewing and crocheting, listening to the radio, and had a love for dogs.

Survivors include her goddaughters: Maria da Conceicao “Connie” Perdigao (husband: Joe) of Tiverton, Fernanda Botelho (husband: Paul) of Fall River, and Eduarda Ferreira, of Canada; several nieces and nephews; her grandnieces and grandnephews: Brittany, Kyle, Brandon, Tyler, Jordan, Taylor and Nathan; her brothers: Manuel Furtado of New Bedford and Jose Furtado of Hamilton, Canada. She was the sister of the late Maria C. Perdigao, Maria Natalia Melo, Humberto Furtado, and Joao Henrique Furtado.

Her funeral will be held Tuesday, May 24, at 9:00 AM, from the Oliveira Funeral Home – South Main St. Chapel, 2064 South Main St., Fall River, MA 02724 followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 AM at St. Theresa Catholic Church, Stafford Rd., Tiverton. Interment will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Fall River. Calling hours will be held Monday night, from 6 – 8 PM.
