Maria Dos Santos Medeiros

SWANSEA… Maria Dos Santos Medeiros, 90, of Swansea, formerly of Fall River, passed away January 22, 2020 at Country Gardens Health & Rehabilitation Center.

She was the loving wife of the late Joao Pires and late Joao Medeiros.

Born in Lagoa, St. Michael, Azores, she was a daughter of the late Joao and Maria Jose (Cardoso) Botelho.

Mrs. Medeiros was a communicant of Santo Christo Church and had worked as a Trimmer in the local Garment Industry for many years before her retirement in 1990.She was a member of the International Ladies’ Garment Workers’ Union and had enjoyed cooking, cleaning and caring for her grandchildren.

Survivors include her daughters: Lubelia Raposo (husband: Jaime) of Swansea and Rita Soares (husband: Antonio) of Aynor, SC; 5 grandchildren: Phillip Soares (wife: Annmarie), Kristine Soares, Kendra Raposo, Sarah Raposo and Nathan Raposo; several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Arturo Botelho, Liduina Ventura and Manuel Botelho.

Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be held Friday, January 24, 2020 at 8 AM from the Oliveira Funeral Home, 215 Columbia St. Fall River, MA 02721 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 AM at Santo Christo Church, Columbia St. Fall River. Interment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Swansea. Calling hours will be held Thursday, January 23, 2020 from 5 – 8 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in Maria’s name can be made to The Greater Fall River Community Food Pantry, 235 Nashua St. Fall River, MA 02721.
