Maria da Conceicao "Connie" (Portela) Aguiar, 83, of Southpointe Rehabilitation Center, 100 Amity Street, Fall River, died Saturday at the center. She was the wife of the late Bento "Benny" Aguiar.
Born in Amieira Oleiros, Castelo Branco, Portugal, a daughter of the late Manuel Ramos Portela and Maria Jose (Fernandes) Portela, she resided in Fall River for the past 41 years.
Mrs. Aguiar worked at the former Quaker Fabrics as a feeder tender for 4 years, previously she worked as a folder for the former Louis Hand for 7 years. After her retirement she worked part-time as a lunch lady for local Fall River schools.
She was a member of the Liberal Club Ladies Auxiliary and the Portuguese Benevolent Alliance Association. Her and her late husband Benny enjoyed renting space at the Fall River and Island Park Flea Markets for several years.
She is survived by 4 sisters, Isaura "Zory" Palmer of Tiverton, Maria do Carmo da Silva of Fall River, Maria Jose Mateus of France and Emelia Silveira of Portugal, a brother, Manuel Ramos Portela of Portugal, several nieces and nephews and several great nieces and great nephews.
Her funeral will be held on Thursday at 9 a.m. from the Oliveira Funeral Home 2064 South Main St. followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in Holy Trinity Church. Interment in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours Wednesday 5 - 8 p.m.
