FALL RIVER - Maria D. (Mendes) Pereira, 80, of Fall River, a retired garment worker, died Tuesday, March 14th at St. Anne's Hospital. She was the wife of the late Alvaro "Hot Dog" Pereira.
Born in Terceira, Azores, she was a daughter of the late Jose Machado Rodrigues and Palmira Sousa Mendes; she lived in Fall River for the past 30 years. She worked as a presser at the former Bradley Scott.
She is survived by a daughter, Liliana Sousa and her husband Francisco of Fall River; a son, Alvaro J. Rego and his wife Fernanda of Fall River; a sister, Jesuina Pereira of Toronto, Canada; a brother, Domingos Rodrigues of Mississauga, Canada; five grandchildren, Jimmy Rego, Melissa Mota, Flavio Sousa, Fabiola Sousa and Kyara Costa; four great-grandchildren, Cheyenne Rego, Margarida Mota, Xavier Mota and Owen Mota; and several nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her dogs Pantuva, Minnie and Bella. She was the mother of the late Fernando Rego and sister of the late Cesar Rodrigues, Maria Rodrigues, Deolinda Rodrigues, Manuel Rodrigues and Jose Rodrigues.
Her funeral will be held Monday, March 20th at 8 a.m. from the Oliveira Funeral Home, 215 Columbia Street, followed by a Funeral Mass at 9 a.m. in Santo Christo Church, Columbia Street. Interment in St. Patrick Cemetery, Fall River. Calling hours Sunday 5-9 p.m.
