Maria Isabel (Raposo) Cavaco

FALL RIVER…Maria Isabel (Raposo) Cavaco, 95, of Fall River, MA, passed away on Thursday, December 10, 2020 at Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River.

She was the loving wife of the late Antonio S. Cavaco.

Born in Feteiras, St. Michael, Azores, she was a daughter of the late Jose Botelho Raposo and Emma N. (Dos Reis) Raposo.

Mrs. Cavaco worked as a Trimmer at Carousel Mfg. Co., and previously worked for many years at Louis Hand Mfg. Prior to moving to the United States she was a bookkeeper in Ponta Delgada, Sao Miguel.

Isabel was a strong woman of great faith and love and devoted her life to her family and her Catholic faith. From the age of twelve she prepared hundreds of individuals for first communion and confirmation. She served in several ministries at the Santa Lucia Church in Feteiras before moving to America. Here she continued her ministries at several churches. She was a very active parishioner of Santo Christo Parish, and served as a Eucharistic Minister and Lector. She was a faithful member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society and the Holy Rosary Sodality. She spent her life helping others and volunteered at St. Louis de France Church, St. Mary’s Cathedral, and St. Anne’s Church. She will be dearly missed by all who were fortunate enough to have been touched by her life.

Survivors include her sister Maria Jose Dias, of Fall River; her stepson Dr. Gilbert Cavaco of Somerset; her niece Maria Isabel Brum of Portugal, her nephew/godson Joao M. Dias (wife Fernanda) and her nieces Joana Mateus (husband Nelson) and Fatima Primo, all of Fall River. She is also survived by several grand and great-grand nieces and nephews, two step-great-grandchildren and two step-great-great-grandchildren. She was a sister of the late Alice M. Raposo, stepmother of the late Veva Cavaco and Rui Cavaco, and step grandmother of the late Susan Amaral.
