Maria L. (Medeiros) Botelho

FALL RIVER…Maria L. (Medeiros) Botelho, 84, of Fall River passed away June 8, 2021 at Charlton Memorial Hospital, in Fall River.

She was the widow of the late Jose R. Botelho.

Born in St. Michael, Azores, she was a daughter of the late Jose and Maria Isabel (Sousa) Medeiros.

Prior to retiring, Mrs. Botelho had worked for many years as presser at Whaling Manufacturing and at South Bay Coat Company. She was a communicant of Santo Christo Church and a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was the best mother her children could ask for, the rock of the house, and a very giving person. She liked shopping, listening to music, and cooking Portuguese food. Maria always loved to have her children over and made sure there was plenty of food for them. She also enjoyed traveling back to St. Michael and buying her fish from the island.

She is survived by two loving daughters: Isabel Barbosa of Fall River and Sandra Pinto (husband Antone) of Fall River; four loving sons: Jose A. Botelho (wife Penny) of Fall River, John Botelho (wife Lorena) of Dartmouth, and Duarte Botelho, of Fall River; five brothers: Alfonso Medeiros, John Medeiros, Amorin Medeiros, Dimas Medeiros, and Bento Medeiros; 18 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Antero Botelho and sister of the late Jose Medeiros and Duarte Medeiros.

Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be held ­­­Saturday, June 12, 2021 at 8:30 AM from the Oliveira Funeral Home, 215 Columbia St. Fall River, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 AM at Santo Christo Church, Columbia St., Fall River. Interment will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Fall River. Calling hours will be held Friday from 5 – 8 PM.
