Maria Gloria Aguiar

April 28, 1923 — January 20, 2014

Maria Gloria (Cordeiro) Aguiar, 90, of Fall River, a retired garment worker, died Monday at Charlton Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of the late Joao Aguiar.

Born in Feteiras do Sul, St. Michael, Azores; she was a daughter of the late Jacinto and Maria da Gloria (Souza) Cordeiro; she lived in this city since 1957. Mrs. Aguiar worked for 29 years at the former Needlecraft Mfg. and Chesterfield Dress. She was a member of the former I.L.G.W.U., now U.N.I.T.E.

She was a communicant of Espirito Santo Church and a member of its Holy Rosary Sodality. She was a member of the former Our Lady of Health Parish and its Council of Catholic Women and was awarded the Marian Medal by the bishop of the Fall River Diocese.

She is survived by a daughter, Mary "Jill" Viveiros (companion Michael Pearson) of Westport; four sons, Joseph Aguiar (wife Vidalia) of Fall River, John Aguiar (wife Filomena) of Tiverton; Richard Aguiar (wife Brenda) of Fall River and David Aguiar (wife Lisa) of Westport; two sisters, Maria Moniz and Gilda French, both of Canada; a brother, Joao Cordeiro of Canada; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Maria do Carmo Craveiro, Jacinto and Manuel Cordeiro.

Her funeral will be held Friday at 10 a.m. from the OLIVEIRA FUNERAL HOME, 215 Columbia St., followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. in Espirito Santo Church. Interment in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours Thursday 5-9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to Founders Affiliate, American Heart Association, PO Box 417005, Boston, MA 02241-7005.
