Maria A. (DaPonte) Paiva

Maria A. (DaPonte) Paiva, 94, of Fall River, passed away Friday, September 15, 2023, at Charlton Memorial Hospital, surrounded by her family.

She was the widow of the late Joao Paiva.

Born in St. Michael, Azores, she was a daughter of the late Joaquim DaPonte and Maria (Oliveira) DaPonte.

Prior to retiring, Maria worked for most of her career as an inspector and trimmer at the former Paramount Sportswear and the former Beacon Garment. She was a parishioner of Santo Christo Church and enjoyed gardening, sewing, and cooking for her family. She will always be remembered as a patient and loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.

She is survived by her children: Joao Paiva (wife Margarida), of Fall River, Bella Oliveira (husband Jose), of Tiverton, Tracy Inacio (husband Manuel), of Assonet, and Linda Paiva, of Fall River; her sisters: Ursilina Almeida and Belmira Botelho; 11 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Joaquim D. Paiva and Maria Encarnação Paiva and the sister of the late Ines Lima, Joaquim DaPonte, and Antone DaPonte.

A visitation will be held Friday, September 22, from 9:00 AM - 10:40 AM, from the Oliveira Funeral Home, 215 Columbia St., Fall River, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM at Santo Christo Church, Columbia St., Fall River. Burial will be private.
