Manuel B. Tavares, 65, of Fall River, an auto technician for most of his life, died Tuesday surrounded by his beloved daughter and family. Born in St. Michael, Azores, he was a son of the late Jacinto and Maria (Costa) Tavares; he lived in Fall River for most of his life; spending his youth in Somerset. Mr. Tavares was a U.S. Army veteran; serving during the Vietnam Era and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a member of Santo Christo Church.
He leaves his loving daughter, Dawn M. Farias (husband Dennis J.) of Fall River; his grandchildren, Quinlan and Kendall Farias; three sisters, Eduarda Castro and Camilia Cunha, both of Somerset and Dolores Almeida of Punta Gorda, FL; a brother, Louis Tavares of Somerset; and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Joseph Tavares.
His funeral will be held Friday at 8 a.m. from the OLIVEIRA FUNERAL HOME, 215 Columbia St., followed by a Funeral Mass at 9 a.m. in Santo Christo Church. Cremation to follow. Calling hours Thursday 5 - 8 p.m.
