Manuel Leite, 95, formerly of Fenner St., died Tuesday at Catholic Memorial Home. He was the husband of the late Emma R. (Santerre) Leite.
Born in Fall River, MA, he was a son of the late Francisco and Maria (Tavares) Leite; he was a lifelong resident of Fall River. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving in the Pacific during WW II. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Woodrow L. Silvia Post 5392 in Tiverton. He was a member of the Montaup Country Club.
Mr. Leite was a member of the Fall River Police Department for 33 years, retiring as a lieutenant in 1981. He was a member of the Massachusetts Police Association and Fall River Police Relief Association.
He was a member of Good Shepherd Parish.
He is survived by two sons, Paul M. Leite (Wife Madeleine) of Somerset and Robert F. Leite (Wife Barbara) of Swansea; a daughter, Gail Diotte (Husband Daryl) of Buzzards Bay, MA; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; a niece and a nephew. He was the brother of the late Joseph Leite and Mary Souza.
His funeral will be held Friday at 10 a.m. from the Oliveira Funeral Home, 2064 South Main St., followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. in Good Shepherd Parish. Committal prayers and interment in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours morning of funeral from 8:30-10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Catholic Memorial Home, 2446 Highland Ave., Fall River, MA 02720.
