Manuel P. "Brooksie" Freitas

Manuel P. "Brooksie" Freitas, 95, of Sarah S. Brayton Nursing Care Center, 4901 North Main St., formerly of Bates Street Apartments, died Tuesday at the center. He was the husband of the late Lorraine (Ferreira) Freitas.

Born in Fall River, MA, he was a son of the late Joseph and Augusta (Pontes) Freitas; he was a resident of Fall River for most of his life and served in the Civilian Conservation Corps. He was a longtime member of the Liberal Club. Mr. Freitas was employed for 32 years at the former J & J Corrugated Box, retiring in 1978.

He is survived by two sons, Charles A. Freitas of Lehigh Acres, FL and Stephen J. Freitas of Fall River; a sister, Laura Cardoza of Fall River; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was the beloved uncle of Rose Marie Barbosa and Maureen Lockwood. He was the brother of the late Joseph Freitas, Manuel Freitas, John Freitas, Linda Bernardo, Connie Lewis, Julia Copeland and Mary Correia.

His funeral will be held Saturday at 8 a.m. from the Oliveira Funeral Home, 215 Columbia St., followed by a Funeral Mass at 9 a.m. in Good Shepherd Parish. Interment in St. Patrick's Cemetery. Calling hours Friday 4 - 7 p.m.
