Manuel Bernardo, 90, of 52 Fountain St., Fall River, died Thursday at St. Anne's Hospital. He was the husband of Adelaide (Benjamin) Bernardo.
Born in Santa Barbara, St. Michael, Azores a son of the late Antonio and Jorgina (Carlos) Bernardo, he resided in Fall River for the past 41 years.
Mr. Bernardo worked as a laborer for Rhode Island Nursery for 25 years until his retirement in 1990.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Emanuel Bernardo of Fall River; 3 step-daughters, Rosa B. Araujo, Teresa Vertentes and Fatima Ferreira all of Fall River and 3 step-sons, Joseph Novo and Messias Novo both of Fall River and Michael Novo of Florida; a brother, Agostinho Bernardo of Fall River and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Antonio Bernardo, Joao Bernardo, Jose Bernardo, Maria de Lurdes Ferreira, Mariana Homen and Silvana Violante.
His funeral will be held on Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. from the Oliveira Funeral Home 215 Columbia St. followed by a Funeral Mass at 9:30 a.m. in Santo Christo Church. Interment in St. Patrick's Cemetery. Calling hours Tuesday 5 - 7 p.m.
