Mami H. Matthews

Mamie H. (Ford) Matthews, 85, of Tiverton, died Tuesday at St. Anne's Hospital. She was the wife of the late Manuel M. Matthews.

Born in Quitman, MS, a daughter of the late Thomas and Ally (Goree) Ford, she resided most of her life in Tiverton.

Mrs. Matthews worked as a social worker for New Visions for Newport County for 10 years, retiring in 1994.

She was a member of St. Madeleine Church in Tiverton.

She was loved by many and always willing to help others.

She is survived by two daughters, Geraldine Kiely (husband Paul) of Fairhaven, MA and Lisa Marie Matthews of Tiverton; three sons, Michael E. Matthews and Douglas W. Matthews (wife Dianne) both of Tiverton, RI and William B. Matthews (companion Lynn) of Fall River, MA; a brother Lamar Ford of Meridian, MS; several grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Joseph Matthews.

Her funeral will be held on Monday at 7:45 a.m. from the Oliveira Funeral Home 2064 South Main St. followed by a Funeral Mass at 9:00 in St. Madeleine Church. Interment in Pocasset Hill Cemetery.
