Madeleine Freitas

Madeleine Freitas, 65, of Somerset, MA, passed away Friday at Charlton Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.

She was a daughter of the late Frank Baptista and Mary (Costa) Freitas.

She graduated from the former Dartmouth College and pursued her studies at various universities.

She belonged to the Fall River Educators' Association and was a dedicated teacher in the elementary schools, teaching English as a second language for 40 years. She retired from the J. J. Doran School in 2009.

She was a lady of many talents, an artist and musician. Madeleine enjoyed playing piano, the violin and the organ. Amongst her many hobbies she enjoyed building miniature doll houses. She was also a ballet dancer and enjoyed putting on recitals for her school students.

She was a former parishioner of Santo Christo Church and attended the St. John of God Church in Somerset.

She is survived by a sister, Margaret Freitas of Somerset, MA.

Her funeral will be held on Thursday at 8 a.m. from the OLIVEIRA FUNERAL HOME, 215 Columbia St. followed by a Funeral Mass at 9 a.m. in Santo Christo Church. Interment in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours Wednesday 2 - 4 & 6 - 8 p.m.
