Josephine (Tavares) Ferreira, 102, of Bristol, RI, formerly of Little Compton, died Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Manor. She was the wife of the late James Ferreira and John P. Barboza, Jr.
Born in St. Michael, Azores, she was a daughter of the late Christano and Maria (Carvalho) Tavares. She enjoyed gardening and antiques.
Mrs. Ferreira worked as a sewing machine operator for many years at the former K & G Manufacturing, retiring in 1968. She was a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union, now U.N.I.T.E.
She is survived by two daughters, Ann Marie Kirton (Husband Richard) of West Warwick, RI and Roberta Oliver of Rehoboth, MA; two sisters, Dorothy Borges of Somerset, MA and Irene Martin of Fall River; 6 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Joseph Tavares, Thomas Tavares, Eddie Tavares, Evelyn Tavares, Mary Tavares and Gilda Dias and the mother-in-law of the late Michael Oliver.
Her funeral will be held Monday at 10 a.m. from the Oliveira Funeral Home, 215 Columbia St., followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. in Santo Christo Church. Interment in Notre Dame Cemetery. Visitation morning of funeral 9 - 10:30 a.m. www.oliveirafuneralhomes.com
