Joseph M. Silvia, 90, formerly of Eagle St., Fall River, died Monday at Charlton Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Alina (Mello) Silvia.
Born in Fall River, MA, a son of the late Manuel M. and Maria Jose (Cabral) Silvia; he was a lifelong resident of Fall River and a member of Santo Christo Church. Mr. Silvia was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during WW II.
He worked as an electroplater for many years, retiring from Aetna Mfg. in Providence. He previously worked for many years at the former Global Mfg. of Providence and Alice Jewelry.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Maureen Lema (Husband David) of Portsmouth, RI; a grandson, Robert M. Pacheco (Wife Tanya); a great-granddaughter, Lilly Pacheco; a sister-in-law, Lorraine Chabot; and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Rose Oliveira, Mary Silvia, Evangelina "Lena" Machado, Georgiana "Gina" Furtado, Manuel, Antone and William Silvia.
His funeral will be held Friday at 8 a.m. from the OLIVEIRA FUNERAL HOME, 215 Columbia St., followed by a Funeral Mass at 9 a.m. in Santo Christo Church. Interment in St. Patrick's Cemetery. Calling hours Thursday 4 - 8 p.m.
