Joseph J. Souza

Joseph J. Souza, 80, of Tiverton, RI, died Saturday at Kent County Hospital in Warwick. He was the husband of the late Doris E. (Margarida) Souza.

Born in Tiverton, RI, he was a son of the late Joseph C. and Lucy (Fernandes) Sousa; he was a lifelong resident of Tiverton and for several years wintered in St. Cloud, FL. He was veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean Conflict. He was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox.

Mr. Souza worked as a terminal operator for many years at Gulf Oil Corporation, Chelsea. He was a member of Holy Ghost Church.

He is survived by a daughter, Debra A. Souza of Fall River; two sons, Russell J. Souza (Wife Deborah) of Tiverton and Jeffrey A. Souza of Queens, NY; two sisters, Constance Carreiro of Tiverton and Alice McKenny of Swansea; three brothers, James Sousa of Island Park, Portsmouth, RI, Alfred Sousa of Tiverton and Peter Sousa of Newport, RI; four grandchildren, Russell J. Souza, Jr., Christopher M. Souza, Jonathan Souza and Jennifer L. Souza; two great-grandchildren, Faith Ann Souza and Kaylee Souza; and several nieces and nephews. He was the companion of Patricia Roppe of Tiverton. He was the brother of the late Lucy St. Laurent.

His funeral will be held Friday at 8 a.m. from the Oliveira Funeral Home, 2064 South Main St., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. in Holy Ghost Church, Tiverton. Interment in Notre Dame Cemetery.
