Joseph M. Benfeito, 81, of Westport, formerly of Fall River, died Wednesday at home surrounded by his family. He was the husband of the late Louisa L. (Benfeito) Benfeito.
Born in Porto Formoso, St. Michael, Azores, he was a son of the late Manuel and Odilia (Mota) Benfeito; he moved to this country in the 1950's, living in Fall River and then Westport for 36 years. He was a member of Our Lady of Grace Church. Mr. Benfeito worked as a laborer for many years at J H Lynch and Sons.
He was a member of Banda Nossa Senhora da Conceicao Mosteirense and a member of the former Portuguese American Club on Almond St.
He is survived by three daughters, Debbie Laurendeau (Husband Rene) of Westport, Jennifer Dias (Husband Pedro) of Dartmouth and Valerie Benfeito (Fiancé Scott G. Guilmette of Fall River; three brothers, Antone Benfeito of Fall River, Louis Benfeito of Tiverton and Edward Benfeito of Assonet; seven grandchildren, James, Derek, Kenny and Ethan Laurendeau, Janelle Louise and Aidan Dias and Hunter James Benfeito; a step-grandson, Scott A. Guilmette; several nieces and nephes; and several godchildren.. He also leaves his companion Mary Silvia and was the brother of the late Antonina Lopes, Manuel and Gilbert Benfeito.
His funeral will be held Monday at 8:45 a.m. from the OLIVEIRA FUNERAL HOME, 2064 South Main St., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Grace Church, Westport. Interment in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours Sunday 5-9
