FALL RIVER… Jose J. Tavares, 60, of Fall River, died Sunday, April 6, 2014.

He was the husband of Lucy (Perreira) Tavares.

He was born in Feteiras de Sul, St. Michael’s, Azores a son of the late Jose D. and Maria de Ceu (Faria Raposo) Tavares and has lived in Fall River since 1977.

He was employed as a laborer with McCourt Construction of South Boston for 20 years as part of Local 610 Laborer’s Union. He was a communicant of Santo Christo Church, Columbia Street, Fall River.

Mr. Tavares was a member of the Fall River Sports Club and he enjoyed fishing, watching soccer, and playing with his family.

Survivors include his wife, a son Stephen Tavares, a daughter Erin Tavares both of Fall River, a sister Zulmira Silva of East Providence, a brother Edmund Tavares of Fall River, a grandson Sean Joseph Tavares, several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Luis Tavares.

Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be held Wednesday at 8 A.M. from the Oliveira Funeral Home, 215 Columbia Street, Fall River followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 A.M. at Santo Christo Church, 240 Columbia Street, Fall River. Interment will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Fall River. Calling hours will be Tuesday 5 – 8 P.M.
