Jose Tavares Miguel

Jose Tavares Miguel, 83, of Fall River, passed away Sunday, February 17, 2025, at his home.

    He was the loving husband of Maria Edwarda (Soares) Miguel.

    Born in Rabo de Peixe, St. Michael, Azores, he was the son of the late Jose Tavares Miguel and Florinda dos Reis Amaral. He served in the Portuguese Army and lived in Bermuda before moving to the United States, where he met his wife.

    Before retiring, Jose dedicated over 40 years to his work as a skilled machine operator at Lightolier, where he took great pride in his craft. Outside of work, he had a passion for winemaking—it was his thing, and he loved sharing his homemade wine with family and friends. Jose found joy in cooking and savoring delicious meals, always bringing people together around the table. More than anything, he cherished the time spent with his loved ones, creating lasting memories filled with laughter, good food, and warmth.

    Along with his wife, Jose is survived by his daughter Fatima Melo (husband Gilberto); his grandchildren Courtney Bettencourt and Marissa Minkle; his siblings Maria do Couto, Anterio Miguel, and Mario Miguel; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

    He is pre-deceased by his sister Fatima and his late son Joseph Miguel.

    A visitation will be held Friday evening, February 21, from 5 - 7 PM at the Oliveira Funeral Home – South Main St. Chapel, 2064 South Main St., Fall River.

    His funeral will follow the next day, Saturday, February 22, at 9:00 AM at the funeral home, with a prayer service at 10 AM. Interment will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery, Fall River
