Jose J. Tavares

Jose J. Tavares, 76, of Fall River, died Wednesday at home. He was the husband of Maria H. (Lourenco) Tavares.

Born in Feteiras do Sul, St. Michael, Azores, he was a son of the late Jacinto and Livia (Cabral) Tavares, he resided in Fall River for the past 31 years.

Before retiring, Mr. Tavares worked as a custodian for Santoro Manufacturing for several years. He previously worked for over 12 years at the former Kent Silversmith of Taunton.

He was an active member of Santo Christo Church and a former collector.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Matilde Amaral of Fall River and Isabel M. Nadeau of Westport, MA; a son, Joseph Tavares of Fall River; two sisters, Feliciana Oliveira of Calgary, Canada and Livia Tavares of Toronto, Canada; five grandchildren; a great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.

His funeral will be held Saturday at 7:30 a.m. from the Oliveira Funeral Home, 2064 South Main St., followed by a Funeral Mass at 8:30 a.m. in Santo Christo Church. Interment in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours Friday 4 - 8 p.m.
