Jose V. Amaral, 95, of Fall River, passed away Friday at Sacred Heart Skilled & Rehabilitation Center of New Bedford. He was the husband of the late Alice (de Melo) Amaral.
Born in Fenais de Ajuda, St. Michael, Azores, a son of the late Manuel Victorino and Maria (Barbosa) Amaral, he resided in Fall River for the past 57 years.
Mr. Amaral worked as a laborer in the local construction industry, until his retirement in 1980. He enjoyed gardening and playing guitar.
He was a former member of Our Lady of Angels Church, now Good Shepherd Parish.
He is survived by 4 daughters, Evonia Branco, of Fall River, Maria Borges of Somerset, Zelia Martinho and Theresa Oliveira both of Swansea; a son, Joseph A. Amaral of Swansea; 15 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Maria Cruz, Manuel V. Amaral and Antonio V. Amaral.
His funeral will be held on Tuesday at 8 a.m. from the OLIVEIRA FUNERAL HOME, 2064 South Main St. followed by a Funeral Mass at 9 a.m. in Good Shepherd Parish. Interment in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours Monday 5 to 9 p.m.
