Jose M. Albernaz

Jose M. Albernaz, 79, of Snell St., Fall River, died Saturday at St. Anne's Hospital. He was the husband of the late Gilda (Botelho) Albernaz.

Born in Bretanha, St. Michael, Azores, he was a son of the late Jose M. and Sarah Sousa Albernaz; he resided in Fall River for the past 38 years.

Mr. Albernaz worked as a machine operator for several years at Tillotson Rubber Co. and previously worked for many years at Tillotson-Pearson in Portsmouth.

He is survived by five daughters, Grace Novo, Nellie Albernaz and Alda Albernaz, all of Fall River, Angie Sousa of Dartmouth, MA and Connie Pimentel of Halifax, MA; two sons, Jose Albernaz, Jr. of Dartmouth, MA and Paul Albernaz of Fall River; a sister, Mariana Velho of Fall River; 16 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Nelson Albernaz and the brother of the late Maria Borges and Leonilde Soares.

His funeral will be held Wednesday at 8 a.m. from the Oliveira Funeral Home, 215 Columbia St., followed by a Funeral Mass at 9 a.m. in St. Peter & Paul Parish at Holy Cross Church. Interment in St. Patrick's Cemetery. Calling hours Tuesday 5 - 8 p.m.
