John R. Perry, Sr., 91, of Tiverton, passed away, February 5, at home, surrounded by his family.
He was the loving husband of Geraldine (Souza) Perry, whom he shared 66 years with.
Born in Fall River, he was a son of the late Antone R. Perry and Mary (Aguiar) Perry.
John left behind a legacy of service and commitment. A veteran of both the Army during the Korean War and the Marine Corps Reserve, John embarked on a remarkable career journey. Beginning as a truck driver for Montaup Sand & Gravel, he played a role in the construction of both the Sakonnet and Braga Bridges. Transitioning into public service, he served as a volunteer firefighter in Tiverton before becoming a Professional Firefighter and EMT for over 25 years, earning badge #6. His dedication extended beyond the confines of his profession as he served as a Special Police Officer, frequently overseeing details at St. Christopher's Church, on Sundays. John's leadership was evident in his role as secretary of the Firefighters Union Local 1703 for many years. Even off-duty, he answered the call of duty, often responding to ambulance calls.
A lifetime VFW member and parishioner of Holy Ghost Church, John found joy in boating, traveling with his beloved wife, and fishing. Though he sometimes struggled to ignite fires in his charcoal grill, he sure knew how to extinguish them.
Along with his wife, survivors include his children John R. Perry, Jr., of Naples, FL, and Bradley S. Perry, of Tiverton, his sister-in-law Patricia Rosa, and his nephews Dennis Perry and David Rosa. He was predeceased by his brother Domingo R. Perry.
His funeral will be held Monday, February 12, 2024, at 9 AM from the Oliveira Funeral Home - South Main St. Chapel, 2064 South Main Street, Fall River, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM at St. Theresa Church, Tiverton.
