John J. Mantez

FALL RIVER…John J. Mantez, 93, of Fall River passed away June 21st at Charlton Memorial Hospital.
Born in Fall River, he was a son of the late Antonio and Maria (Paiva) Mantez and had been a lifelong resident of this city.
Mr. Mantez was a Sergeant in the Unites States Army, serving in the Europe-Africa- Middle East Theater during World War II. A member of the Laborers International Union of North America since 1946, he was an avid collector of Lizzie Borden , Circus and railroad memorabilia. He recently donated over 200 miniature fire trucks to the Fall River Fire Museum.
Survivors include 3 brothers: Antone Mantez, Joseph Mantez, & Edward Mantez, all of Fall River, and a nephew: Robert & his wife Patricia (Cheetham) Mantez of Fall River. He was brother of the late Manuel Mantez and Alicia Mantez.
Mass of Christian Burial to which relatives and friends are invited will be held Thursday at 9:30 AM in the chapel at Catholic Memorial Home, Highland Ave. Fall River. Interment will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Fall River. Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 5 - 8 PM at the Oliveira Funeral Home, 215 Columbia St. Fall River, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations in John's name can be made to Catholic Memorial Home, 2446 Highland Ave. Fall River, MA 02720.
