SOMERSET - Joao M. "Joao Miguel" Silva, 67, of Somerset, a retired machine operator, died Wednesday, February 7, 2018. He was the husband of Fatima (Carvalho) Silva.
Born in Algarvia de Nordeste, St. Michael, Azores, he was the son of the late Jose and Maria da Conceicao (Amaral) da Silva; he emigrated to this country in 1977 and was a member of Santo Christo Church. Mr. Silva worked at the former Quaker Fabric for 30 years.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Kimberly A. McShane (husband Barry) of Somerset; six sisters, Filomena Rocha (husband Noe) of E. Providence, Adelina Rocha (husband Humberto) of Attleboro, Augusta Silva Costa (husband Dionisio) of St. Michael, Azores, Maria do Carmo Silva Cunha (husband Joao Luis) of St. Michael, Azores, Beatriz Medeiros (husband Antonio) of Vancouver, Canada and Blandina Cardoso (husband Antonio) of Vancouver, Canada; two grandchildren, Liam and Kora; and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Antonio da Silva, Jose Luis Silva and Olinda Sousa.
His funeral will be held Monday, February 12, 2018 at 8 a.m. from the Oliveira Funeral Home, 215 Columbia St., followed by a Funeral Mass at 9 a.m. in Santo Christo Church, Columbia St., Fall River. Interment in Notre Dame Cemetery, Stafford Rd., Fall River. Calling hours Sunday 5-8 p.m.
