Joao Oliveira

Joao "Tio Joao do Chaves" Oliveira, 92, of William St., Fall River, died Monday at home. He was the husband of Maria Isabel (Pedro) Oliveira.

Born in Santa Barbara Sao Antonio, St. Michael, Azores, he was a son of the late Antonio and Maria dos Anjos Oliveira; he lived in this city since 1966 and was a member of Santo Christo Church. He worked at Chaves Market for many years. He was an avid fan of Futebol Clube do Porto.

Besides his wife of 65 years, he is survived by two daughters, Maria F. Viveiros and Maria Teresa Faria, both of Fall River; two sons, Antonio P. Oliveira and George Oliveira, both of Fall River; 8 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late John P. Oliveira and the brother of the late Maria, Elisa, Marianna, Maria Jose and Manuel.

His funeral Mass will be held Friday at 8 a.m. from the OLIVEIRA FUNERAL HOME, 215 Columbia St., followed by a Funeral Mass at 9 a.m. in Santo Christo Church. Interment in St. Patrick's Cemetery. Calling hours Thursday 5-8 p.m.
