Joao A. De Medeiros, 78, of Fall River, died Thursday at Kimwell Nursing Home. He was the husband of Constantina (Botelho) De Medeiros.
Born in Santa Clara, St. Michael, Azores, he was a son of the late Joao and Maria Julia (Medeiros) Medeiros; he emigrated to this country in 1970 and was a member of Santo Christo Church. While living in the Azores, he served in the Portuguese Army. Mr. De Medeiros worked as a machine operator for 26 years at Plymouth Rubber Co. in Canton. He was a member of the Academica Club, serving as club president in 1982.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Helen Golden (husband James) of Somerset, MA and Elizabeth Shaker (husband Robert) of Berkley, MA; a son, John Medeiros (wife Nancy) of Somerset, MA; three sisters, Isaura Tome of Pawtucket, RI, Antoinette Santos of CT and Maria Jose DaCosta of St. Michael, Azores; nine grandchildren, Christine, Stephanie, Eric, Savannah, Cassidy, Christian, Robert, Trevor and Michael; and several nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be held Tuesday at 8 a.m. from the OLIVEIRA FUNERAL HOME, 215 Columbia St., followed by a Funeral Mass at 9 a.m. in Santo Christo Church. Interment in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours Monday 5-8 p.m.
